Does it fix things so that you can see closely and far away?

I was under the impression they can fix both. I only had problems seeing things far away, so I don't have personal experience. They did tell me I might still need reading glasses someday as I get older and more decrepit, so LASIK could reshape my corneas but not prevent the ravages of time. The doctor also told me that I could also get more LASIK if I ever needed it someday. Like, if I wanted I could just drop a casual $4,000 to get a touch-up.
