| It's like a graphics upgrade of L4D.
They decided their approach to variety in repeated playthroughs would be to include roguelike elements, like weapon stats and quality ratings (uncommon, rare, epic, etc). Inevitably you'll just pick whatever makes number go up. Mods don't produce interesting effects, just stuff like now your weapon.....has a scope! An unnoticeable amount of reduced recoil! Hooray :( Weapons overall are pretty dull. AR, SMG, sniper rifle, and shotgun. There's varieties of each, but the subtypes don't matter, they all feel about the same. You'll pretty much want to make sure you're all carrying different weapon types, because otherwise you'll be competing for ammo and running out faster if everyone is using the same one because ammo drops are typed and not just generic "ammo" that will resupply anyone. There's a shop you can use to resupply every level. You scavenge copper coins as currency because the present day zombie apocalypse collapsed into some medieval RPG economic system. The lack of Chet & Erik and Jay Pinkerton will hit you over the head when the characters start talking pretty much immediately. They have a character named Hoffman who is Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and he says wacky lines like, "Ladders....my arch nemesis," and "Jumping. Why did it have to be jumping." LOL? There's some redhead who is a snarky cocktease tomboy I guess? "I'd kiss you if you weren't you!" "Hey, no free hugs!" An old woman named "Mom" who is just as nauseating as you'd expect. Black guy and Latino guy. I guess it's not bad, but it's pretty underwhelming so far. It ran fine. I didn't run into major bugs like some people in the Steam reviews were complaining about. It just doesn't feel like it advances past L4D in any meaningful way and doesn't feel like a $60 game. |
