Although the difference with polio was that it took 20 years for the vaccine to be discovered. I was talking to my mom about a documentary she watched on the polio pandemic, and she mentioned that even after one of the companies manufacturing one of the vaccines famously screwed up and accidentally infected like 40,000 children, parents still lined up to get their kids vaccinated because it had ravaged the population for so long. So that might be what it eventually takes. Not for parents today to get their kids vaccinated, but for their own kids to get their future children vaccinated 20 years from now because they're sick of the virus spreading around because their parents were fucking stupid.
I kind of wish insurance companies would announce they refuse to cover unvaccinated people from covid-related insurance claims (excepting people who are ineligible or can't get vaccinated for legit reasons, obviously). We could film those people defiantly coming out of ICU, and defiantly opening their hospital bill 3-6 weeks later just to see the look on their faces when they suddenly have $80,000 of medical debt because they were too stubborn to get a free vaccine. It could be like a new Youtube genre. Despair unboxing. |
