Nobody likes dark matter by laudablepuss 01/10/2022, 9:01am PST
I get it. It sounds bizarre and hardly anyone (outside of scientists) even understands the concept. Dark matter doesn't just not emit light, or not reflect light: it doesn't interact in ANY WAY with regular matter, except that it gravitates. But it's not like someone rolled out of bed one morning and announced that this is a thing. We've been trying to figure out WTF the deal is with galaxies rotating too fast since Vera Rubin discovered that the edges of galaxies are spinning as fast as the centers. So 50+ years. We ended up with dark matter because nothing else seemed to fit. But people hate it and want to prove ANYTHING else must be it. Teeny tiny black holes! No. Maybe the neutrino hypothesis has new legs recently. I dunno. Prove relativity is wrong! Good luck with that one. :/
