I can't think of anyone who turned a team around in my lifetime like Sean Payton did. I spent a lot of time thinking about it. We were as bad as the LA Clippers, Atlanta Falcons and Hartford Whalers. And then Payton recruited Drew Brees and we went on a 15 year tear the likes of which I couldn't have imagined.

We ... beat.... everybody. I swear we had one absolute humiliation applied to every team in that time. I got to watch games where we just dropped 40-50 points on teams over and over again and it was glorious. "Beating all the teams" is not this new concept to fans of most teams, but damn was it great to see happen each week. I never enjoyed football more.

I wish he would have stuck around. He had Jameis Winston playing great for chrissake. I wish he got a chance to draft a QB in the first round so we could see what he could do with him. But I get it, the most I've stuck around a job is 5 years and he did three times that.

He's my favorite coach, by far, of any sport. Winning a SB in New Orleans was a miracle. There were some exasperating finishes in the playoffs, but before he came to town we simply didn't go to the playoffs that much. It became an annual thing.

I worry that it's going to be 20+ years of futility again.
