I'm a Mandela...Mandelit...Mandelani...Mandelorian? by kyrie derbingle 02/01/2022, 10:15pm PST Graduated in '91, didn't pay much attention to politics, world affairs, etc. growing up in the sticks of Western Wa. I knew about Apartheid, though, and I knew about Mandela's imprisonment, though not all the details surrounding it. I remember the announcement of his death in the mid- to late 80s as distinctly as I remember hearing about Reagan being shot or the Challenger exploding. Which is to say...I mean, I was in 6th or 7th grade, so I don't remember it distinctly at all, but I remember feeling the emotional impact of hearing about S Africa losing it's greatest icon for racial equality.
