There is a radiation-heavy area called "The Glow" and the game lets you wander in there without protecting yourself from radiation. So you can get thousands of rems of radiation. Or rads or curies or roentgens, whatever the unit is.
It will let you SOLVE the level. It will let you get the water chip! It will let your companions wander around in there.
And it will let you leave. And then kill you when you fast-travel. Fallout has consistently had a problem with companions not taking the same damage as the protagonist (and who is to say they didn't all drop dead when I did) but that was a true "oh, you want to play this part of the game over? Hope you saved, fucker." So I used a trainer/cheat tool / save game editor and even then it was a goddamn mess to fix it.
That part doesn't hold up, but it being 2022 instead of 1997 made it so I was able to get by. It does so many other things so well.
