It was mostly competent - well made but soulless. If they'd captured some old-timey pulpiness - like The Rocketeer - it would have been way interesting. But yah, there is no way it was going to be "another Star Wars". Sci Fi doesn't age well!

The "anti mars bias" thing is legit tho! I've heard from multiple people who work in Hollywood that it's impossible to get anything Mars related greenlit because the execs are convinced that it's box office poison.
