You can't do that with an index fund. And paper currency is too bulky, if it even holds its value.
The dollars Russia supposedly owns have all been frozen. They can't spend it. It's just a number in a computer. The physical gold they have in vaults is still there.
So owning physical gold is not completely crazy. Although a lot of people have lost money doing so in recent years. Commodities go up, commodities go down.
And as a friend of mine used to say, "you can't eat gold." Its value is situational, like everything else. |
