I have not bought it or played it yet, just been looking at what other people are saying. It seems very unfinished, first of all, and very buggy. Mysteriobama or Pinback, can you tell me what your experience is? Are ship defenses broken? I've heard reports that ship balance and the fleet victory predictions are wildly off. What do you think of "sectors"? AKA mini-maps that are connected to other mini-maps via single tiles.
Apparently the battle viewer, which has been in the game since at least GC II (when I started playing it), was a "last minute addition". What's the point of designing pretty ships if you don't get to see them? But they were going to leave this out? (See this comment. "The battle viewer is something we asked for and they put back in. It needs some work, but overall I don't fault them for it considering it was a last minute addition."
Wait a minute, is the battle viewer just a cutscene? Here's an interesting review. It also indicates the tech tree thing may not be as bad as I thought. The UI has major issues apparently. This doesn't sound shocking to me, from having played the previous games. Try reprioritizing buildings in GC3 by dragging and dropping right now. Or selecting a new tech from the tech tree. Sometimes your clicks or drags just don't take.
IGN kinda hates it as it stands now. I KNOW a lot of this will get fixed -- eventually and possibly in DLCs. Later they'll add spies and mercenaries again, probably. I dunno what to think, but I'm definitely not suddenly on the fence about buying it despite it being on Epic right now. |
