So there's been a lot of hype around this game since it was released two weeks ago, and.............it deserves it! It's very good. It's an FPS puzzle game where the basic objective is to figure out how to finish a level that requires you to clear X number of enemies and use one-time movement power-ups (double jump, dash, etc) to reach the end. Here's a video of a single level to get the general idea.
As you can see, the secondary objective, and where all of the replayability comes from, is to finish each level as fast as possible to earn rank medals. This is the good kind of addictive, normal person speedrunning where there's a reasonable carrot on a stick to keep you trying to whittle your time down and pull off some tricky shit to get the best reward, and not the lifestyle kind where you spend 14 hours a day on Twitch trying to make frame-perfect jumps and saying things to people in chat like, "Yeah, I'd like to have a job if I could g et one."
There's bronze, silver, gold, and platinum medals that the game will show you the times for, and then there's hidden red medals the game doesn't tell you about. I found out about them after beating level 1 in less than 20 seconds. There's leaderboards for each level between your friends so you can show them what pieces of shit they are, and then there's global worldwide leaderboards that naturally aren't even worth paying attention to because they're already hacked and people are posting times of like 0.34 seconds.
Then there's a tertiary objective of finding a gift on each level that is not about speedrunning, but is instead about solving the puzzle of how to creatively use the limited power-ups to reach it.
I've only played it for an hour and its worth the purchase price. It's also a great game to just pick up and play in short bursts. I dare say this might end up being one of the best games of the year.
