Oil from U.S. reserves sent overseas as gasoline prices stay high
The quick summary is that
1. There is a fixed amount of refining capacity in the US, and
2. Biden is releasing more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) than we can refine, so
3. Oil from the SPR is being sent to China (and other places overseas)
Not included in this article, but also relevant:
4. Biden begged Saudi Arabia (and some other countries, in OPEC and not) to increase production, and got turned down.
5. New oil production in the US has been mostly shut down, partly by government policy (like the Keystone pipeline shutdown), but more by woke capital shutting down investment (and insurance) of new oil exploration and extraction. So, help for high prices is probably not coming, except possibly in the form of a recession damping down demand.
6. If we have an actual emergency, rather than a political one (November elections are looking disastrous for the Dems now), the SPR may very well be empty... |
