The Sandman (2022) (Netflix series) by Fullofkittens 08/22/2022, 11:17am PDT
I bailed after two episodes.

The comic is notable and interesting because of the way it mixes high and low art, and does a bunch of new-wavey things with mixed media and postmodern art direction. It's got arty pretensions with beautiful vistas and it's also got splattery gore and gross visuals. It mixes stories from the Bible and Shakespeare with pulpy shit like psychics and serial killers.

The show doesn't do any of the mixing of styles. It's just the arty pretensions with the beautiful vistas. It would have been hard to adapt the punky mix of Pop Art and poster art and Impressionist art etc that they have in the comics, into a TV show, for sure. They didn't even try. They just made a fantasy show where a hot guy goes around solving dream crimes. I'm not interested in that.
