Roguebook is the Goldilocks deckbuilder between Slay the Spire and Monster Train by Mischief Maker 09/04/2022, 4:47pm PDT
Keeps the improvements Monster Train made to the Slay the Spire formula like freeform card upgrades and warning the player what form the final boss will take so you don't create a build it hard-counters (like Time Eater vs. a shiv deck in StS) while maintaining StS' original hero-focused scope.

The other big changes it brings to the formula is instead of following nodes down a branching path, you paint-in tiles on a hex-grid with a limited amount of ink and brushes to uncover treasures and combat encounters. Also the game rewards creating a massive deck by granting you one of three random artifact-like powers every time the size of your deck passes a certain threshold. There are barely any chances to remove cards from your deck, instead you visit alchemists to transform your starting trash cards into upgraded new cards.

It's also visually drop-dead gorgeous. Real "storybook come to life" vibes.

Really happy with this game after the disappointment of Gordian Quest (not a bad game, just mediocre).

Note that during the current GOG sale it's cheaper to buy the Deluxe edition with all the DLCs included than to buy the core game + 5th character DLC seperately.
