| So I want to say I don't begrudge Nintendo the right to sell their wares for money or anything. I never seem to get their consoles when they are new, but then I find myself with most of them at some point. I don't think they are the bad guys.
I bought so many games over the years via Humble Bundle, Bundle Stars, Steam sales, Fanatic, IndieGameStand and the like. I don't even know how many games I have via Steam. Whereas with the Switch I have... Asteroids: Recharged, Qix and Akane. I don't think Nintendo needs to run constant sales or anything but every time I go to their online store I like, Jesus Christ, that Mario game where he throws his hat at people like Tron is still sixty bucks. It's like, they never discount anything so I don't bother looking at their site to see if they discount anything, even though there is nothing stopping me from getting that Mario game, which looks really fun, at any time. It is a psychological marketing thing, I guess. With the Steam Deck, because there are a ton of games there and different ways to filter them, it is interesting to have something pop up that Valve says is "Great on Deck" which I perhaps never tried on a desktop computer and let it go. There is an element of discovery there. The Deck has slightly better ergonomics but that may just be because it is a little wider than the Switch. The Switch is good, love the Switch. But the Steam Deck is letting me explore stuff I grabbed 10+ years ago in a way the Switch can't. |
