Gameplay-wise, I always thought Disciples would work better with a King's Bounty formula rather than the weird HOMM/JRPG hybrid the originals went with.
But ultimately the art design is what made Disciples 2 a classic, and this new game just doesn't have the same artistic vision of a truly apocalyptic dark fantasy.
Liberation has dark plot moments happening all the time, but the main characters are way too chipper, with mediocre voice acting. Lots of palette-swapped units and bizarre ideas like making the undead look like aliens.
And there's this creepy thing throughout the game where you can roleplay the female protagonist as a turbo slut, banging every halfway friendly character in the game, but all you get is a cringeworthy PG-13 text description of the act, not even Witcher 1's sex cards. |
