Yeah, I haven't used that feature yet. The "save" button is tiny and off in a corner, the GENERATE button is big and on the actual faction screen, so I clicked it by mistake when I was making my custom civ. It said it was going to generate a civ based on what I wrote and I thought, "ok weird?" and cancelled it.
Oh did I mention that Gal Civ IV: Supernova Edition (not sure what that means yet) is available on Steam now? I bought it and I'm playing it, I'll have some deep, penetrating insights soon.
I don't know how much of this I can put up with. I've barely begun this game, I should try to be patient. Things I hate already: the ship designs are sharply constrained. You have to pick a ship type, which is a ship hull size and available components that you can put on it. You can't change any of that, like make a probe with a cargo hull. I don't know for sure yet, but this appears to be a drastic removal of play-styles they don't like. Here are your ship types. You can't have a sensor ship. You can't have a war colonizer (I never made one but it was at least possible before). Pretty disappointing.
The entire interface and look and feel of the game, even scanning anomalies, is taken right out of Stellaris. "We are not alone" your robot tutorial guy says. I hate to tell you this, but I don't want to play Stellaris when I load up Gal Civ. (Stellaris is a fine game, I've also played it.)
You are NOT restricted to the suggested techs, you can view the tech tree like before. So that's good at least.
Why do my leaders have goofy back stories? This is Stellaris-like but weirder. "Gets death threats from an unknown person" is one leader's bio. "Has a twin that is missing" is another.
Here's a great bit of coding: when you change your settings, even if you don't adjust the graphics, it still says that your graphics changes will take effect when you restart the game. Can't detect that nothing has changed and so skip that message, that's not possible for Stardock I guess. Just dumb shit like this in all their games. |
