It's early access. But the AI is f-d, it seems like. I enjoy stomping the shit out of my opponents, for awhile, but cranking up the difficulty didn't seem to do anything. Brad has identified one issue that seems to be contributing to this, and I'm arguing with the dumbest guy on earth on the GC4 forums about some other AI issues. I can't tell if he's a Stardock dev or a freelance jackass, but it seems like the latter.
The maps are way too small. Hilariously, the recommended number of AI opponents for these maps is 2-4 times as many as what it looks *to me* would result in a reasonable (and pretty close still) spacing of empires. Maybe everyone is supposed to only get one or two core worlds and play "tall". That concept always sounded stupid to me, but what do I know.
The UI has baffling issues IMO. There are math issues with the reported battle results -- I don't *think* there are math issues with the battle resolutions but I'm unsure. Lotsa weird issues here and there. Nobody thought to put a scroll function in anywhere in the entire game where text is displayed, and there are overruns.
This stuff is probably being worked on, and the devs are getting back from their summer vacations this week. But after 150 hours or whatever, I wonder if I actually like this game still or not. The leader sims minigame has been funner than I expected, anyway. |
