Because of what you said, you can't play the "oh, put an angel in the CEO spot" game. I don't buy it.
The effects of Unity's screw up shall be as follows.
1. More development shops creating their own engines
2. The free engines like Godot and Love will really, really take off
3. The mobile trash shops will double down, they'll do anything Unity says and they'll desperately try to get real game studios to align with them, but this is purely out of selfish self interest
4. Any company making a game engine now sees weakness out of Unity and therefore opportunity to make money in a non sleazy way
5. Riccetelilo will fail upwards. He will probably get a Presidendal Medal of Freedom. Unless crushed by a submarine, all CEOs fail upwards |
