I didn't watch the YouTube video, maybe they go over this: There's a crucial game mechanic that is not explained anywhere in the game that I noticed, which is: your Thing's skills are dependent on how many hit points you have. If you have 1-5 hit points, you have one set of skills, if you have 6-10, it's a different set, if you have 11-15, it's a third set. This is crucial to solving some of the puzzles that allow you to move forward.
The game kind of indicates this(?) by having your Thing become visibly bigger as it gets more hit points, and also by giving each tier of hit point a different color, but I didn't pick up on it until I went to the wiki. Maybe I'm just stupid, that keeps coming up over and over, I might be too stupid to play puzzle games.
Anyways, go in fore-armed with this information and play this because the core interaction of "shoot out tentacle and eat a dude" is great and is worth the price of admission on its own. The pixel art style is also wonderful, and there are also great details like: you save the game by finding a little hidey hole to still some tentacle mass into, which becomes a checkpoint, and if you go back to an old checkpoint your gross endometriosis flesh has spread across the room and it looks like bio hell in there. They didn't need to do that kind of thing but it adds a lot. |
