May seem wrong to judge it so harshly with so little time played, but in the first 90 minutes of Hi-Fi Rush I beat the shit out of 100 robots to a bitchin' rock beat and then bashed a giant death robot in the face with a guitar so hard it exploded while Nine Inch Nails blared in the background, so Last of Us could have done better.
I appreciate that you called this out. It's fucking ridiculous. Nothing is going to stop game companies from wasting our time unless we talk about it and then get hordes of unwashed aspies involved. But it starts with us.
I would not consider "Frenzy" to be a great game, but seconds after starting it, I am zapping robots. I bought Buggy Game on Steam, and it did the thing that happens to me with a lot of racers, where it is not called out what the "gas pedal" button is, so I sit there while the other cars race off and never catch up. But again, to its credit the game just starts and lets you go.
To invest as much time as these STORYTELLERS do and then have the content be as awful as most game writing is just astounds me. Nothing but universal praise everywhere else on the Internet for TLOU as well, mind you.
I am glad you posted about the shaders. I kind of want to know why every other game on Steam manages this just fine but also I don't care enough any more. It's a bug, someone should have written it up as a bug. "Game takes four hours to start."
Genuinely, I would like to enjoy this game. I have it as a downloadable thing for my PS4, but I have too many games on the console's hard drive, so I have to go navigate the world of an expansion drive for a console or delete my NHL 14 save or something. So, someday.
Once again thank you for the review, Rafiki.
