I loved the RTS genre, but even the prime entries had shit for online matchmaking. League of Legends figuring that shit out is what let the MOBA genre bury RTS until the only people still playing are the competitive Age of Empires weirdos, the Total Annihilation autists, and the closet fascists screaming for constant Germany buffs in Company of Heroes. So I was excited to hear about Stormgate. Former Blizzard people making a new RTS, banking on the free to play MOBA model for it to take off. But I'm getting the biggest Hellgate: London deju vu vibes. Former Blizzard employees, sci-fi Templar humans vs Infernal hell demons, horribly out of place lame Blizzard sheep humor. There's also the several whiffs of Star Citizen scam. Oldschool genre big names, triple dipping for funding: kickstarter, angel investors, and some extremely sketchy and vague "shares" selling. |
