| Just cause you, specifically, haven't heard of a thing doesn't mean it's not quality. I'm pretty certain DRG has a large playerbase. I myself have clocked 25 hours in the game, playing cooperatively with three of my friends so you could multiply that playtime by 4. Fucking Sseth even did a video on it. It's well known to be good. And fun. But I'm not trying to explain why DRG is good and fun. We're talking about Helldivers 2. Which people have heard of, how many did you say? 30 Zillion?
Well I don't really consider myself an intellectual but I can try to explain why I think Helldivers 2 is good, and not a "generic multiplayer shooter", which I think is a little disingenuous. It's 4 player co-op, and while there are a few of those out there, some of fine vintage, this one is also a third person shooter. With a Starship Troopers meets WH40k setting! It has a galactic war with multiple battlefronts against different factions of enemies that are distinct from each other. The Helldivers you play as look cool, kind of like the ODST from the Halo games but clearly the devs did their own take on it, and you have capes. That's cool, I think caped super soldiers orbital dropping onto battlefields to commit xenocide against aliens and robots is cool. You ever play that game Mercenaries? I liked how in that game you could call in stuff like air strikes and bunker buster bombs or have vehicles be delivered to me, I thought that was cool. And guess what, that's in Helldivers 2 also, so that's cool! You can call in all sorts of ordinance and artillery and orbital strikes and apparently when you get high enough level you can even call down your own mechs onto the battlefield and raise hell in them. I don't think aping Mercenaries makes a game "generic." Fucking more games should be aping Mercenaries, that game was amazing. Anyway, I'll wrap it up by saying that the battles scale in difficulty to the point where they can be extremely chaotic, with you and the surviving members of your squad fighting off hordes of enemies while the seconds before your extraction arrives tick down, wondering how you are even still alive after all that. Guess what? I haven't even played Helldivers 2. Don't own the game. Haha. I've played the first one though, and have watched a good deal of gameplay footage of Helldivers 2 and I do intend to buy it, just haven't got around to it yet. A lot of stuff came out. Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes came out. You ever heard of that one? How about Hades 2? Fuckin amazing game that one. Ever heard of it? |
