A couple things need to be mentioned: first off, the pure thrust of the entire above post is this: I don't want to be sued, I don't want to go to jail, and I want the site to succeed. The 'clean seperation' clause is simply there so that I don't have to deal with myself or veronica getting into an emotional mess over things we've tried to put behind us. It wouldn't be there if she wasn't the one working to pay the significant bandwidth bill each month, but there you have it. Why should we pay for the privilege of our past haunting us?
I agree with Zseni: this is Chet-logic. If this is a big problem for you, or if it becomes one, I can probably set up a server in our space at Exodus and stick a paypal button out there to help pay for it. In fact, it really isn't a matter of money, is it? You just don't want a bunch of faggots following you around and harrasing you with the balance of personal information they aquired about you in #ga (which is understandable), and are using the money as leverage in your decision. Though I see why this bothers you, I DO NOT approve of banning them. This place exists so that we may call one another whateverthefuck we please and not have to worry about getting banned. I don't like making exceptions because you know the people calling you a fag - this again leads us to the path of not only Chet, but #sa as well. Think about Zseni's #ga banning. ON THE OTHER HAND, #ga members would have to violate their own irc rules to harass you here, and I will hold them to their word. THIS DOES NOT EXTEND TO CALLING YOU A FAGGOT BASED ON THE CONTENT OF YOUR POSTS, BTW. HELL, I DO THAT ALL THE TIME. This all seems moot for the moment, anyhow, since Zseni says clarification isn't from #ga (though he sounds so much like spanky, I hesitate to believe it). Regardless, please to be not freaking out so much in the future.
Fuck yeah that works for me. As long as the stuff said in #ga stays in #ga, I could give a shit. I really don't believe it will, but I seem to recall hating Bush for making judgements on these EXACT SAME CRITERIA so fine - we'll call it an extradition treaty.
Beyond that, this may surprise a few of you including the people who don't like me - but I am not the final authority of what goes on around here despite the site running on my hardware and on bandwidth veronica pays for. ES is that authority, and I will defer to him on EVERY particular including the bit about clean seperation. If anything really irks your hide and I'm being a total ass about it, esNO@FUCKINGcaltropsSPAM.com is the address to write.
Why, you ask? Because I am fully cognizant of the fact that I am not a good final authority.
The pecking order around here roughly goes like this [people with admin access on caltrops]->[everyone else]
The first field can be expanded to [Entropy Stew->Barborito->Fussbett]. Usually ES and I are of one mind but this is not always the case. For instance he likes Ministry. I'm trying to think of a more significant disagreement and completely failing. Fussbett simply wants to be the web/graphics guy so you should probably not appeal to him.
It's a love affair - mainly Jesus.
You've probably heard that there's a staff mailing list - you might be wondering, "How do I get on that mailing list so I can tell people their articles need to be better before being published?" The answer is to write a few pieces of decent content - if you seem like a reasonably intelligent and/or funny person and contribute to the site, welcome aboard. Those are pretty easy requirements. The perks are . . . absolutely nothing other than seeing your name in bright lights on the front there. Eventually if I get off my ass there'll also be POP3+SSL email for all staff, too.
The forums are in the process of a fairly significant securitycentric update over the next few days/weeks, once that's done we're going to aggressively seek an audience.
Cheers,
--SB
Mail: I'm not even checking the esAHTcalMMOMOMOMOMMMMORPGtropsDAHTcahm at the moment - perhaps I should start?
Code updates: Business is REALLY FUCKING HORRIBLE SO POOOOOR bad at the moment, so I have even less time to deal with caltrops. On the other hand, Ray (of et al) has offered his help, so dev work will not stop completely. I need to get the code to him first, of course...
-/ES/-
Ah sorry to hear it. Not sure how you want to handle Ray/root access etc. but we'll figure something out via email.
