It's actually got a really good, dark story about how you practically need to sell your soul to get ahead in the music biz, compared to Rocky Horror's non-plot. And it keeps at a consistent quality from start to finish, unlike Rocky Horror which falls apart in the second half.
BUT... it's every bit the musical as Rocky Horror yet the songs suck, and (with one exception) they're filmed boringly. Nobody's gonna scream and jump out of their chairs to dance at a wedding to any of this movie's songs they way they would for The Time Warp.
I used to go to Rocky Horror once a year when I lived in Rochester. Always a great time but it would start at midnight, there would be the obligatory 30 minutes of the virgin auction and such. Always had fun but boy does the movie itself drag in the last 15 minutes. Maybe it was just because it was so late, it looks like the movie itself is only 98 minute long.
Just to give us some other topics to talk about - was RHPS something you ever attended, MM?
Also I never really thought about the plot of Rocky Horror but you are right. A mad scientist creates a golem and rapes a guy in the butt is not the tightest plot I've ever experienced. |
