All the things that MUST be fixed in Gal Civ 4. Seriously. by laudablepuss 11/20/2024, 1:19pm PST
The UI is a mess, I swear. You cannot have DESTROY IMPROVEMENT be the giant banner in the middle of the screen when you click on an improvement. I'm less shocked by this craziness when I think about how *hovering over* things is the best way, sometimes, to get information. But jesus fuck, can you move that to where it's not going to be accidentally clicked? And generally, the UI is not very connected. Why is research not on the main task bar? Why do I have to click on a shipyard to design a ship? They used to have a design ship button, getting rid of that was silly. Why are there a ton of popups for every event instead of an event list and you can just select them? There *kinda* is a list like this, the GNN galactic news network, but then why the popups?

Highlight the fucking selected ship, please. I play zoomed out and it's nearly impossible to see what ship is selected. (Note: zooming in makes it EVEN HARDER to see what's going on in most cases.)

Let ships alert and stop when a hostile ship (or space monster) enters their sensor range. Empire Deluxe did this 30 years ago. The gameplay cannot be gotcha moments where you didn't pay attention to every one of your ships that already have orders. That's just crap gameplay. I'm pretending my guys are Star Fleet, not the Dallas Cowboys. :(

They changed the starbase interface, and it's proof to me that Stardock does not play their game. It's less clear what your starbase is doing when you click on it, and all the info is in the upper right, along with the button to go to the next starbase. Hover over that button, and the mouseover text covers up the starbase info. Makes it really inconvenient to go through your starbases this way. File this under "the UI is a mess". Also the zoom effects are unbelievably stupid and headache-inducing. WTF

I'm unsure why computer-controlled factions can't tell me what they're willing to pay for the stuff I offer in the diplomacy screen. I think this should be easy to fix? Why do they offer an amount of money they are unwilling to part with? If you've never played the game, this probably sounds really really stupid. It is! It's also pretty minor, just bizarre that it can't be fixed apparently.

Ship movement is bizarre. If my ship has movement orders, it shows the path it'll take. Why then if I click on its destination again (to engage the ship movement) does the path change? HOLY FUCK? This can be a big problem if it decides to go past a planet on the OTHER side and into the teeth of pirates or something. Also, the paths suck. Ships double back before moving in the obvious direction you'd expect, and they take no account of the speed boost your own space gives them. They DO take into account the effects of competing civ's speed debuffs for space they control, so what's the problem?

Also please stop trying to predict what my destination is. It's where I clicked. Not the dead planet nearby. Not the anomaly I can't scan. Look, if it's a ship that can scan anomalies, then sure guess that the anomaly is my destination. I think that's pretty doable? How about a way to pick a path without moving my ship, too? If there's a way to do this, I haven't discovered it. This might be a skill issue, I dunno.

Unarmed sensor probes CANNOT be allowed to start wars. It's so stupid. You can't "attack" someone with an unarmed space probe (or unarmed ship of any kind, obviously), but if you click on a competing civ's fleet it'll popup "do you want to go to war with these guys?" And if you're a spaz like me you might accidentally click yes. Just leave it alone, guys, probes CAN'T FIGHT.

That's my list for now. Oh well whatever.
