The big problem Linux has is that a lot of indie games are still Windows-only. You can get some of them working with WINE but honestly it's pretty painful and not worth the time.
Most AAA games have Linux support these days. If you use Steam, it's pretty seamless. If you don't use Steam then you sometimes end up tracking down libraries to manually install for the games. As you can imagine, that's not fun. They're also not usually installed by default since games tend to use all 32-bit libraries, and Linux has since Moved On to 64-bit libraries everywhere.
I never had a problem with the lack of anti-cheat, but also, I don't tend to play multiplayer games.
Epic doesn't support Linux for "strategic" reasons (they don't want Valve's Linux handset to succeed.) I'm sure it will break your heart to learn you can't play Fortnight on Linux.
Your Linux experience in general will depend a lot on which distro you pick and what hardware you have. For games you do NOT want to be using an old version of anything. Pick the very newest version of whatever distro you choose, and use the very newest NVIDIA drivers for that. Do NOT use noveau. If you can, use the open source NVIDIA drivers. |
