The marine portions of Rebellion's AvP 1 were probably the best horror game ever made. No turning the player into a barely controllable cripple to add tension, you were fast and armed to the teeth. It's just the enemies were blindingly fast, skittered randomly around the walls and ceiling, and about half were randomly places so you never knew exactly where the next one would come next.
AvP2 was scariest for me, ironically, in the first mission where you never need to fire a single shot. |
