Goes along with the trend that everything is so damn dark now by We'll fix it in post-modern 08/18/2025, 9:22pm PDT Brought to mind recently by the Redlettermedia review of Weapons mentioning how it and many modern movies are unnecessarily dark. Not in a natural way like a skilled cinematographer would do with careful planning of light levels, but in a shitty lazy post-processing way where they just turn the slider down on brightness and color saturation. My folks are really into The Gilded Age. I recently caught part of an episode when I visited them. What stuck out to me was this very look; everything was too dark and desaturated. Even the daytime scenes! It really sticks out when compared to its predecessor, Downton Abbey. This might be explained away that the latter takes place before electric lightning, but why do even the daytime scenes look like this shit? It's the difference between the careful planning of Barry Lyndon and lazy shits who rely on lazy slider shit to make everything look like shit.
