This would be the third iteration of the itch.io alpha release of Brigador Killers, and it is an absolute fucking blast. There's a short narrative mission included, that I think is just there to show that they do have storyline and narrative stuff in the game beyond mission briefings and lore unlocks.
The real meat of the update comes from what's called The Garage, which is essentially Brigador as an extraction looter. Anything that you escape with from the 15 smallish to mid-sized missions is brought back to your base and you can choose what to store and save. Unlike last version, everything gets remembered, even down to the number of bullets you have for your weapons, of which there is like over 20 useable. There's a few cars, a couple motorcycles and a police APC, if you can steal one. There's also some other unlocks in the form of rigs or armored suits you can wear, there's three of those. Right now I think the Carmine Suit, which is kind of like power armor, is the only one worth using. Sadly there are no mechs, tanks, or powersuits in the game yet.
What really strikes me about this version though is simply the potential on display here. I feel like from what I've played, even in this early build, they've already succeeded in their goals of turning Brigador into a game that is a cross between Hitman and Grand Theft Auto 2. The on foot gameplay is tight, MAVS is nailing the soundtrack as always, and gunning down squads of corpo cops with an MG42 while I'm decked out in power armor makes me feel like one of those dudes from Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. It's great. Can't wait to see more. |
