Capcom blew my mind today when I found out they created a new IP called Pragmata. I didn't know AAA companies did that anymore. I think this game happened when the Resident Evil team were brainstorming a sequel and someone said, "What about Resident Evil.....in space!" Everyone else said, "That's stupid. You're stupid and you don't even know." And the first person decided to spite everyone by getting a project approved that was that but didn't EVEN use the RE franchise.

So picture Resident Evil but instead of a haunted mansion or town you're in a moon base, instead of zombies you fight androids and mechs, instead of the Umbrella Corporation there's the Delphi Corporation, instead of being alone you're giving a piggyback ride to Jonbenet Ramsey in a puffer jacket, and when you aim at something you have to solve a hacking minigame in realtime or you do next to no damage.

The hacking minigame is pretty simple, you have to navigate a 5x5 grid to the green square, you can cross over bonus squares for extra damage and have to avoid others for reduced damage, and do it all while enemies are trying to attack you. In the demo it's not difficult, but I'm assuming in the real game it'll get harder both because of navigating the grid and having to avoid enemy attacks.

Default gun is a pistol that recharges ammo over time. There are extra guns in the demo and they all have fixed ammo and are single use only. Maybe there will be fun gunplay?

Outside of combat, it's light action platforming and opening loot crates for hacking power-ups and "lim." So, I GUESS if I had to be fair, it's not really RE since it's more action-oriented and has no inventory management or puzzle solving. It's just using the same 3rd-person action style of RE and I'm being a big jerk about it.

Pauline Diane provides commentary and does all of the hacking and it's supposed to be one of those *~fuckan adorable~* bonding with a child adventures, although Diane is a robot so it's also a story about robots learning how to be more human through high-fives. I'll start a betting pool on Polymarket over whether she's some corporate mega-weapon and you have to make the heart-wrenching decision about whether to destroy her or not after spending 20 hours being smitten with how she's just the cutest thing in the whole wide world. I also wonder if Capcom is tugging their collars at the timing of releasing a game about a grown-ass man lugging around a little girl.

It's RE engine, so naturally it looks and sounds amazing and ran smooth for me. Use a controller, it's way more intuitive compared to a mouse and keyboard.

They seem to have learned with this demo compared to RE8. The RE8 demo SUCKED because it had a ridiculous time limit that locked you out COMPLETELY when you hit 1 hour of playtime. Not only does this demo appear to have no limit, there's unlockables! It encourages replayability! It's only about 20 minutes long, though, and starts like this:

That's bad. :( I had to wait 5 minutes to compile shaders.

Demo's on the store page.
