Is there a food forum? I'll just post this here. Glad to see her bad takes hiccup is over.
I used to naively think the workers in Trader Joe's were cheerful and talkative because they were treated and paid better than typical grocery stores so they gave a shit and weren't empty inside. Oops turns out it's sinister Disney cult shit.
That manager conversation is straight up Chotchkie's flair reprimanding shit.
I'm in the same boat as her where I like Trader Joe's, but sometimes avoid it because the cashier commenting on your food IS WEIRD. It's actually nice for me to know that they are just doing it automatically and because they have to - and not like they actually care that I bought 10 packs of dal.
Some dumb fucking, divorced from reality executives always think this forced talking points shit improves numbers. In reality, where real humans & customers live, it always ends up driving away more sales than anything it brings in. Looking back, the most aggressive ones always seems to be made policy at places going downhill and about to enter a terminal spiral: Bestbuy, Gamestop, Radioshack, etc. Was Circuit City or Office Depot doing this shit?
This policy made me feel horrible when a younger dumber 20 something me naively thought the cute cashier girl was flirting with me. Why would she ask what I was doing later? This HAS to be flirting! So I asked her to coffee across the street. It would play out just like Jennifer Aniston in Office Space! Right? It immediately got awkward and she avoided eye contact as she finished bagging in silence. I feel terrible to this day, not even imaging the hell this stupid fucking policy must be for women working the registers there. There's no way it hasn't led to stalker situations.
Note: these mentions of Office Space are not cues for Mischief to post clips. We know what source we're referencing, and we need to have a talk about your problem, buddy.
