Because we are stupid and like to play cowboy with caltrops.com (and do really dumb things like only backup once a week if we're feeling shitty, etc. - but fortunately I lucked out today and we backed up so close to the time I fucked everything up that only one post was lost) we do live updates to the post database. This results in MY stupidity of typing things like the following into psql:

update posts set post_text='blah blah blah'; WHERE pid='####';

instead of:

update posts set post_text='blah blah blah' WHERE pid='####';

The problem is that the first example, what I actually typed in this case, updates every post in the forums to read 'blah blah blah'

The result is what happened today.

Fortunately, owing to the fact that I happened to be experimenting with how to enter a newline character into the 'blah blah blah' textfield, I backed up just beforehand and we lost a single post by a guy named 'Lort' (sorry, guy, hope it wasn't too long).

Anyways, first thing we're going to do around here is up the backup frequency a whole hell of a lot. The second is to write an admin interface (ES will probably be doing this).

Sorry for the downtime. If blaming a misplaced semicolon doesn't seem to cover the depth of your rage, blame Vag for making yet another warez link after expressly being told not to, which is what kicked off the flurry of editing in the first place (hey, since I can't handle being wrong, it's what I'm doing).
