My favorite bit from the article:
Q: You were fined $30,000 by the league office, and you paid Michael Lewis' fine of $5,000 for his role in the incident. Does that hurt you?
A: Yeah, because that money could have helped my children down the road -- $35,000 is $35,000, I don't care if I got $8 million in the bank. That $35,000 could have been used on some land for my kids who could sell that land for $200,000 when they're 15 or 16. Yeah, it hurt me.
I guess I just like the idea of him raising a litter of lil' hustlas. Joe thinking he's God's Gift to Football doesn't surprise me - that's the stereotypical (and too often correct) self-image of top-tier football playaz, most especially WRs. Didn't you know? All WRs are always open on every play, every time. Jusk ask them. Ask Horn, Owens, Moss, McCardell, Keyshawn. Ask Cris Carter, Chris Collingsworth, and OH GOD ESPECIALLY Michael Irvin (but, unfortunately, he usually was) if they always were. Hell, Deion Sanders will show up and tell you he was on those dozen or so plays he ran on Dallas' offense in 97 and 98. Don't ask Marvin Harrison or Jerry Rice, though - they have no qualms about blocking, and yet both curoiusly lead their team (and often, the league) in catches every year. |
