Anybody hear Steve Martin's parting shot about Moore? Half the audience leapt like those tiny dinosaurs from Lost World onto tubby, slow-moving ass, the rest queued up to HLUGHLGHULG the organisers that gave Moore the award just so they could choreograph this insult.

Nearly every actor there seemed to be against the war, but Moore went way over the top. I wouldn't have booed him off stage like the audience, but even I rolled my eyes at what he was saying. Please, this is an awards ceremony - you see Peter O'Toole, there? That's called 'decorum.' Try it on some time.
That said, a lot of the reasons Leftists sound so anti-American is because they actually do love America and would like for it to suck less. Criticism reveals idealism, that whole blah.

I think I've made it pretty clear though that there are unbridgeable gaps between what I'd like to see in terms of socio-economic structure, and what we have in America (or any other nation past or present). When I criticize it's because a) I'm a hypocrite (it's not as if I'm going to actually become an activist for what I believe in), b) I'm naive and c) I don't want to have to go to the trouble of actually bothering to leave the damned place - I've heard some real horror stories about what happened to some people after they renounced their US citizenship. |
