Has combat like that, except you can also assign different moves or spells to the control stick to finish or link a combo, as well as assign two of ANY of the party's techs to the c-stick for instant use. It also has UNISON ATTACK, where all 4 characters hit with a move at the same time, sometimes pairing up into special combos a la Chrono Trigger. The combat is quite fun and efficient, albeit a little confusing at times if you're not paying attention and forgetting the block button. The 4-player mode looks like it would wipe its' ass with FF:CC's.

Now I can cook sandwiches AND rice balls for an after battle snack!

Not using party members? They STILL level up and learn new tech. I have a character who's sole function is emergency backup afterbattle nurse.

Has anyone else tried this? It's not bad, REALLY.

I really fucking loved Star Ocean 2 (FLABIO likes a game ONOS!) and was going to try this because it was made by the same people (or WAS it?) and the best part about Star Ocean 2 (the combat, and cooking!) seems to have been carried over. Can you compare the two?

While I loved Star Ocean 2, I was never much of a fan of Tri-Ace's Tales series. The plot and characters were just too much of a super uber anime gay cliche to be enjoyable; Tri-Ace's trademark combat was the only saving grace. Reviews of this one seem to confirm my fear though, that the plot and characters are very anime, shallow, and cliched, but the combat kicks ass.

I'm curious how the 4 player mode works. What the hell do the other 3 people do when you're not in combat?

I'd like to take this opportunity to give another "fuck you" to Crystal Chronicles. I'm retroactively lowering my review score of it to a 4/10, which is the point where a game starts to feel like work instead of entertainment. For every sort of neat 4 player moment where you coordinate a magic blast, there are 20 of everyone arguing over who gets the next piece of equipment (that affects one of your THREE stats) and for someone to stop running in the wrong goddamn direction.
