Recommended Book: Imajica by Clive Barker by Beast-God 04/10/2003, 7:44pm PDT A fantasy book that doesn't feel like yet another retread of LoTR. Interesting setting, messes around with standard cliches enough to make them original, has Barker's very "wet" style of writing. The plot is very tricky and plays games with any predictions you may make. No character is 100% good or 100% bad and there's several sections where you have no clue who the fuck you should be rooting for. Satisfying ending. The Bad: Very overt subtext about the war of the sexes that basically boils down to the grand message of "Thelma and Louise" (Men Bad. Women Good.) which has no place in a book of such otherwise complex/subtle themes. A good read. To hell with Steven King and his doubtful-if-it's-ever-getting-finished-but-probably-shouldn't-be-because-none-of-the-followups-have-even-come-close-to-the-raw-feeling-of-the-first-book Dark Tower books.
