I'm putting together a staff article for the draft, but the Bengals giving no indication on who they are going to take really gums up the works. I think that they *should* take CB Terence Newman, because 1) Jon Kitna is serviceable 2) QBs Carson Palmer and Byron Leftwich wouldn't play for them next year anyway and 3) The Bengals are probably going to be drafting in the top 5 next year anyway, so why not grab 7 rookies at the top of the round and surround their future QB taken at the top of the draft in 2004 with a maximum amount of talent?
However, they will probably take Palmer because it nobody is worse at their job than Mike Brown and it's ultimately his call.
Anyway, it sort of fucks things up and it'd suck to have the very first pick wrong, but the last few drafts have been easier towards the top since the guy who went first had pretty much essentially signed his deal before the pick was announced.
If any of you guys have the inside filth on just what guy your team is drooling over, let me know.

It's always a big ass surprise to me who the Broncos pick. And I get the impression that the guys who make a living at predicting this stuff have a hard time pegging Shannahan, too. All I know is that he'll probably pick an offensive "skill" player in either the first, second, or third round. Just because that's what he always does. Hopefully he'll grab an O-lineman in the first or second round. Beyond that I wouldn't even hazzard a guess. |
