Or the Saints' (late of the Raiders) Grady Jackson, showing up a plump 366. Except he's so fat, Haslett yanked him from the starting lineup. But oh, those sultry Nawlins summers, ay Jonesy?
Missed this the first time around, but yeah. 366... I don't know where to begin. He was skipping minicamps as well, which means he's entered that dangerous territory where it might be difficult for him to ever lose weight. He could probably drop twenty pounds in a week by just doing some jumping jacks in the heat and humidity of an average LA summer. But he's so fat and out of shape, the thought of being there is repulsive to him, so he's not going, not exercising and thus gaining even more weight... soon he's going to be one of those guys that needs to have butter slathered on the doorjams just so he can squeeze through a room. If John Cleese hands him an After Eight mint before training camp starts, it's going to get ugly.
Grady's weight and Norman Hand's departure is one of those cases where real-life follows video games. You know how after a free-for-all draft in NFL2K3 you'll end up with some guys you really don't want on your team and you want to try stockpiling draftpicks in exchange for like your fourth DT or seventh wide receiver or something? You go and plug in the worst guy into the trading window and try to eke out a deal with some computer controlled team for whatever you can get. Usually what happens is that the computer won't give you even a seventh round pick for the shittiest defensive tackle on your team, but they WILL give you a pick for your third string guy. So you end up trading the guy who is better just because you can get something for him. I'll guarantee that when Haslett was trying to get a sixth round pick out of Seattle in the draft, he offered them Fat Grady first. Holmgren told him to get lost. Haslett then offered him Norman Hand, who, while being enormous and someone who also shut it down after week 8 last year, *has* been going to minicamps and is down to about 322. Holmgren found that deal to be acceptable. So now the Saints have to either start Kenny Smith or hope that they can get Grady down to playing weight before Bryan Singer starts skulking around camp trying to lock him up for the part of 'the Blob' in X3.
