You need 12kg (~28lbs.) of plutonium at the very least for critical mass. Anything beyond that is your explosive force. My very rough understanding is that 14.4kg of plutonium with a few grams of thorium in the center would result in a 4 kiloton explosion (place at the base of the WTC, enough to make 9/11 look like a field trip), for example. What I've read indicates 1KT per ten percent of critical mass beyond critical mass, then double resultant force due to thorium which effectively doubles the efficiency of the reaction, doubling the yield to 4KT.
Besides the weight, you're not going to pack this into a device less than 10 inches in diameter and around 20 inches long, give or take.
This is, btw, roughly the dimensions of the W79 recoilless rifle thermonuclear round that was developed.
