I agree that Arnett's last major mistake was small potatos, but only when held against his track record of far bigger fuckups (see US/nerve gas/Vietnam/oops I made the whole story up and managed to get fired by Hanoi Jane's fucking ex). He is free to do as he pleases as a New Zealander (thus, I don't think it the literal treason many did), but the American firm that hired him is simply looking out for its own interests by eliminating him when he goes on Iraqi television to tell them the Americans are fucked. Actually, compared to Baghdad Bob and his Capitol Hill peers who as representatives of the US government said, while in Iraq, that they trusted the word of Saddam Hussein more than that of George Bush (at the very least a sign of moral vapidity if not flat out idiocy and treason), it was not the big deal that Fox and friends made it out to be. |
