Triumph of the Will was designed to move people, and that was the horror of it (as Barbie pointed out). Whining to movie studios asking them to change the name of The Two Towers because it reminds you of 9/11 is just plain idiotic. Asking that 9-1-1 be changed because it reminds you of 9/11 is idiotic. Asking that nothing be built any any piece of the land that the original World Trade Center Plaza (not talking about buildings 1 and 2) "in rememberance of those who died" is idiotic. Using 9/11 and "terrorist ties" as an excuse to rape a country's infrastructure\natural resources and subject its citizens to "Shock and Awe" is idiotic (saying that the Dictator was a bad guy would have sufficed, but the White House had to make up the "OMG, they're giving Nukes to terrorists! This is part of the WAR ON TERROR (TM)" excuse and expect everyone to play follow-the-leader without offering any solid evidence).
Its one thing to join a candle-light vigil once a year in rememberance of the loss, but when stores start selling (and continue to sell) "9/11 NEVAR FORGET" stickers for your car, it becomes idiotic. I know people who were present at the WTC on 9/11 and people who lost loved ones there. They've managed to move on with their lives, and I suggest you do the same. If you are unable to do so, please schedule a visit with a psychologist and/or join a support group for PTSD.
Sure, and they are an easy target, and hardly a significant majority. There are morons that can turn any issue, no matter how worthwhile, into something obscene.
However, I find the opposite extreme, of pseudo-postmodernist ranting about how the plebeians mourn so falsely, etc equally repellent. I'll take a dozen mildy retarded grannies with "NEVAR FORGET" stickers on their oldsmobiles over even one more Chomskyesque "see how Bush and the military industrial complex weave the masses' anger over 9/11 into yet another evil capitalist conspiracy" type sneer.

Cyrris did, as Sildenafil suggested, nail it - but there's a bit more by Senor Barborito 07/13/2003, 12:59am PDT
