The board is filled with beginners and novices like myself working out of their bedrooms in addition to advanced guys like you who are trying to make a living at it. FL is probably the standard at the low end because it only costs 150 bucks, can be downloaded from tucows, and runs on Windows. That, and it's a nice sequencer and vst host that's most commonly compared to Reason in terms of basic functionality and usage. Logic is probably also more well-known than Pro Tools (I hadn't even heard of it before this, though I've seen Logic mentioned time and time again). I wouldn't be at all surprised if Cubase was the most common once you move into the realm of people who know what they're doing, especially if they're sampling instruments or laying down a live track into the mix. Anyways, you have a bunch of novices on the forum, so you're going to get more mentions of what they use than you are guys who are hooking a Pro Tools workstation into their $80k Avid system. Though it still did get mentioned.

I really only checked out the "General" area before I responded above. The hardware forums have some good info, it's definitely better than, say, the Cubase forums, where the discussions usually start with someone saying "How do I turn my MIDI file into an audio CD" and end with 25 posts of people laughing at the first guy w/o answering his question (unanswerable as it kinda is). I didn't get a chance to look at the rest, will look maybe tomorrow. Just got back from driving 8 hours.

I mainly been looking through general, hardware, and the Listening Lounge. There's some really good info here and there in the FAQs as well, but you already know an ISO standard fuckton more than I do, so I have no clue what you'd benefit from in there.
