For a long time "The Coliseum" was run by a board that was independently run as a non-profit. It was not the best stadium I've been in, but it was well run, clean, and had good relations with its tenants. The A's, Warrior's, and Raiders were pretty happy with it. You got reasonably good service.
Back a while ago; just before the Raiders came back, Oakland’s politicians and city officials staged a power play and took over. Like everything else Oakland politicians have run, they through out the old staff and installed a bunch of fuckups. Relatives and friends. Oakland's like that. (A good parallel example of what’s happened to the coliseum is how Oakland city politicians dealt with the Oakland School system.) They ran it into the ground. Ran up the debt. Massive fraud and incompetence. Hired people who had no skills except they were someone's friend or relative.
Soon they stopped doing maintenance, hiked fees, put off payments, etc... They then had problems with the A's and Warrior's. Then the politicians got the Raiders back by lying and offering what they couldn't deliver. It was just sheer incompetence and stupidity. I not naive enough to say the Raiders are right on all accounts. Mr. Davis new what he was getting into. I just don't think he knew how massive the incompetence of the City of Oakland was. Don't even ask a typical raider fan about the Oakland (Marketing) Ticket Authority. That's the City of Oakland's run organization that sell Raiders tickets. Well, I shouldn't say they sell tickets. They make no effort to do that. Or answer the phone. Or keep current records up to date. Or answer question, or anything else. What they can do is waste millions. Or should I say steal million to pay the friends and relatives of Oakland politicians.
