What do logos normally go for? Or, a better question I guess: what did logos normally go for?
A new lawn care company could flat rate a local guy for a $100 logo. Cheap, but you get only one designer's opinion on the logo, so hopefully you picked the dude based on a nice portfolio of work. The real benefits to a designer are that you will likely work towards that $100 -- if your rate is normally $40/hour, you can try to not go over three hours of effort. Also, you're starting a relationship with the client, which is the really important aspect. Once pleased, they'll come back for business cards and the website and brochures... If they're displeased, you still get $100 for your attempt, which is, you know, congruous with labour laws.
INC: holy shit, that designoutpost
INC: that's like the greatest fucking resource for clients, and horrible for designers
INC: which is your point, I know
INC: but then I saw the quality of the work, and I was like, "Fuck, I want to offer $200 for my own personal logo!" |
