I've seen both. Rashamon is about perception, and the audience knows as much about the real event at the beginning as it in the end. Rashamon is brilliantly acted, put together and fun to watch.

Hero is about being a hero and unifying China. At first we are lied to. Then the truth is told. THE END. Rashamon was good, Hero was mediocre. But you know what was really great? Sanjuro.
