Welcome to Hayt's world, circa 2003. At first I had a couple of gigs. I got it all on napster, back on my badass 56k modem. Then I found Hotline. 2 Gigs became 8. Then I found soulseek. 8 Turned into 240. Now, two hard drives and a dvd burner later, my mind is flayed. Not only do I have to download entire discographies of every artist I've ever liked, I have to do it NOW. Anyway, some tips:
1) Organize now and organize often.
2) There is no salvation from the aural religion. You'll know you're totally gone when you find yourself enjoying air conditioners humming and cars passing by.
3) All I can say is: I used to like trance. Now my trance collection is like that pedophile uncle nobody talks about. I burned it and deleted it. The lesson: things you like now, you will be lukewarm later.
4) Fuck limits, buy more hard drives. It's worth it. One day you'll start liking things like Wadada Leo Smith's weirdo solo trumpet albums, and albums of nothing but cut up rain noises, etc. There's absolutely no reason to stunt your musical growth. It's only a matter of time before you start making it. And then you can only get better. And that's all worth it. Listening to your own music and liking it is not something that can be emulated easily.
