I have spent the end of the summer getting re-obsessed with early wu-tang records. And I need something lightish to read as the rest of the books on my stack are a little too dense for bedtime.
The Amazon reviews for the Wu-Tang Manual are positive, unfortunately they appear to be written by idiots:
vivalaramona "vivalaramona"
this book is genius as all hell. seriously. and i'm not just a wu tang/hip hop fan. i finished college 8 months ago and this book has given me more knowledge and wisdom than anything i've read in years. i read this book on a long car ride the day after i did some shrooms and it blew me away. i've always respected the RZA but this convinced me that his mind was more powerful than i considered before. he pulls the best elements out of a variety of philosophies and ideologies and puts them together in a way that's not hokey or new age-y. this is the best book of the year. he combines simple pragmatic advice about things like samplers & why you should stay hydrated with nation of islam street philosophy and business advice.
and to that kid that said that he talked about too much... that kid doesn't know how to synthesize knowledge and think it out. chess influenced wu tang cause it thought them to think ahead and figure out how to pinpoint your opponents weakness and then make them fall through that. if you can't synthesize knowledge then the only part of this book that will help you are the lyrical descriptions to help you with stuff you didn't understand. but if you are ready to think and be wiser for it in the end then this is your book.
i haven't written a review on here in a long time, but this book has moved me.
Theodore Monteiro IV "Swords"(REAL NAME)
If you are a fan of hip hop, an artist, a hustler or whatever, you would do well to read this book. RZA expands on the concepts of supreme mathematics, cinema, brotherhood, the music biz and most importantly philosophy. The book was very insightful and really explained the truth the birth of the Wu Tang, its members and its ideals. RZA is a true 21st century renaissance man. I was not the biggest Wu fan ever but I wanted to check this book out none the less and Im glad I did. Its not a especially long read but you will enjoy it if you are a fan of the culture. Pick this book up, it will be well worth it
J. Stairiker "Son of the Genius" (REAL NAME)
Im reading the book now and it has changed my whole perspective on the world in just about an hour. Its a book that can be incredibly deep and spiritual even if you ain't a Wu fan. It shows how deep the minds of the Wu members really are and this book, marks the distinguisment from all other rappers today cause most of them BE SUCKA MCs.
