Zero mention of any game breaking bugs that are mentioned in every single user review I've read.

The most glaring problem people had centered around the fact that Microsoft regularly makes SDK amendments to DirectX 9c, BUT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FUCKING REV NUMBER OR LETTER. Nor do they include the changes to DX 9c in Windows/Microsoft Update. Civ IV used the most recent version of DX 9c MS provided. So what happens to most gamers is this: They know they installed 9c (because they have mad install skillz) so when the game installer tells them that the game needs 9c and would they like to install it, they reflexively click "No." Why not? Turns out we should always click yes, if your rev is current nothing at all will happen, if not you will see a small amount of file copying. You will have to reboot however. Some people that answered no with the Civ IV install got fucked by this, I answered no but didn't. (I just did a wipe and reinstall of windows and loaded the most current DX 9c rev off of another recent AAA release).

Once you are up and running, glitches abound but I've encountered no show stoppers. Never locked up, never crashed to desktop, etc. What I did notice was horrific frame drops occasionally, sometimes (but not always) during the Wonders cutscenes. Also, sometimes, when zooming out to global view (which I think is fucking useless.) The only reason I seethe at the frame dropping is that my main rig is ridiculously high-end (FX-55, dual BFG 7800GTX OCs SLI'ed and 2GB of stupid fast matched memory, etc...) so there is no fucking excuse for this.

There are also a handful of annoying gameplay problems, but there is a patch on the way that looks like it addresses most.

The Space Conquest Victory cutscene is also the shittiest one of the series.
