Best adventure game runner up: Sid Mier's Pirates! Shame there's no "best half a dozen Flash games connected by a boring sailing model" category. Best Alternative sports game: What? NT Best Fighting Game: Dead or Alive 4 completely snubbed! Best FPS: F.E.A.R :( Battlefield WHO? (lol!) Best Music Game: Must be tough narrowing down the year's two contenders Best Platformer: Psychonaughts. I love Psychonaught's style and charm, but the latest Prince of Persia game had better platform gameplay hands down. Best Puzzle Game runner up: Meteos. I must have gotten a different copy than everyone else, because the one I have somehow requires less thinking than Bust a Move. Fuck that "must have DS title" noise. Best Driving Game: Mario Kart DS. Much monocle popping by Gran Turismo fans. The Ridge Racer series will have its revenge in 2006. Best RPG: Dragon Ball Warrior 8 Z. Japophiles. Runner up: Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich, did that really come out this year? 3 years for a full priced expansion pack, nice job Irrational. The readers thankfully remind them that KotOR 2 was released this year. Best Sports Game: Fight Night Round 2. Why do people still buy football games? Best Strategy Game: Civ 4. Does this really count as 2005 considering it will take half a dozen user patches before it works? Best Graphics Technology: Resident Evil 4, God of War, F.E.A.R. There seems to be some COLOSSAL SHADOW looming over this category. Oh wait, SotC won "best art design", because the graphics themselves weren't good enough???? and the grand prize goes to.................. Best Developer: Irrational Games?!!!!!!! "Irrational looks like they're finally getting respeck (their typo -Fab) for their relatively small but excellent catalog of games, to which they added Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich and SWAT 4 this year. On the heels of the thankless job of turning out another Tribes game, they had a banner year and continued to put out wildly divergent games. Unlike some other talent-packed development houses, Irrational seems to be excellent at whatever genre they put their hands on, instead of playing it safe with a core design conceit year after year after year. We like it when people keep things fresh, even when they know that it's not going to be a blockbuster."
